Managing someone else's affairs

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 protects people aged 16 and over who are unable to make decisions for themselves because of learning disabilities, mental health problems or illness.

The act enables you to choose someone to manage your finances and property should you become incapable of doing this. They will also make health and welfare decisions on your behalf.

To do this, you need to draw up a legal agreement called a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA).
