Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to pay?

The Council doesn't have to provide free school / college transport for those over 16 years old. We've decided to raise an income rather than cut services. The Council contributes 80% of the transport costs. This is based on the Post-16 Transport Policy.

What about those who find it difficult to pay?

Gwynedd Council does not offer financial help for the scheme, but you could be eligible to apply for the Educational Maintenance Allowance. More information is available on www.studentfinancewales.co.uk or ask at school / college.

I’m 15 years old but going to year 12 or starting a further education course. Do I have to pay?

No. The Council must provide transport for all who are under 16 on 31 August.

When can I use the Ticket?

The ticket does not entitle you to travel on every public transport in Gwynedd. The Transport Network states which bus services are available for the student’s home address and the relevant school / college.

What are the conditions of using the ticket?

You must keep to the behaviour code; if you don’t do this, you may be banned from getting a ticket.

What if I change from an school / college?

Go to My Account and then My Profile, or contact Galw Gwynedd on 01766 771000 to update your details.

Can I use my ticket to travel on the bus and on the train?
