Proxy vote

If you suffer from a long term illness or disability or you have work commitments, you can apply for a permanent proxy vote for all elections.

To apply for a proxy vote for just one election you must have a specific reason, e.g. you will be on holiday or away because of work.

If you are suddenly taken ill you can apply for a proxy vote for medical reasons up until 17:00 on election day. For more information call us on 01766 771000. 

Download a copy of the proxy vote application form, print it, complete it and return it to the address noted on the form. 

Normally, you must submit your application at least 6 working days before the election. You can change an existing proxy vote up to 11 working days before the election. If you are suddenly taken ill you can apply for a proxy vote for medical reasons up until 5pm on election day.

Anyone who is eligble to vote in the election. They must be:

• 18 or over
• an UK, Republic of Ireland or Commonwealth citizen, or
• a citizen of an European Union country living in the UK, or
• a citizen of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or a British Overseas Territory living in the UK 

The person voting on your behalf cannot be a proxy voter for more than 2 people who are not immediate family members. 

You will be sent a special proxy poll card with details of where you should go to vote. At the polling station, tell the staff that you are voting as a proxy. 

You will need to tell your proxy how you want them to vote on your behalf. 

You can go to your polling station and vote in person as long as your proxy has not already done so.
