Sherpa'r Wyddfa Bus Service shortlisted again for two national awards

Date: 01/11/2023

Sherpa’r Wyddfa Bus Service, one of Gwynedd’s most popular bus services has been shortlisted for two UK Bus Awards.

This comes after the service reached the final round of The UK Transport Awards recently.

The service is amongst the nominees for the Buses for Leisure award in addition to Going for Growth sponsored by Instol. Sherpa’r Wyddfa bus service is led by a partnership between Cyngor Gwynedd, Transport for Wales, Conwy Council and Eryri National Park.

Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Cyngor Gwynedd Cabinet Member for Environment said:

“I am very proud that Sherpa’r Wyddfa is receiving recognition for the service in its new form.

“The success shows how transport services can be modernised to meet the needs of users in challenging times. The service combines journeys that enable Gwynedd residents to make important day-to-day trips with a useful travel resource for people visiting the area.

“Thanks to careful planning, many people make use of the Sherpa that offers an excellent network of bus services to transport them around Eryri in a sustainable way.”

Sherpa’r Wyddfa service was transformed back in April 2022. Since then, regular services are provided that connect the mountains of Eryri with the sea, as well as additional services in places where high levels of people can be seen visiting popular destinations in the area.

The response to the service in its new form has been very positive with a 31% increase in users over the first twelve months.

The Sherpa’r Wyddfa service runs regularly by connecting the popular routes around Yr Wyddfa, which allows anyone that wants to enjoy the mountains of Eryri and other popular local attractions to park their vehicles in an appropriate carpark.

The UK Bus Awards ceremony will be held in London on Tuesday, 28 November.
