Free festive parking boost for Gwynedd businesses

As part of Gwynedd Council’s efforts to support the county’s businesses, free parking will be offered in all the county’s public car parks during the period leading up to Christmas.

In response for calls to extend the length of the campaign, more free parking will be offered in Gwynedd Council car parks than ever before during the lead-up to Christmas as part of the Council’s efforts to attract more shoppers to make the most of Gwynedd’s high streets. This year, free parking will be available during the first two weekends of December as well as the period from 15 to 27 December. Fees will be as standard from 28 December.

Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member who leads on Regulatory matters including parking said: “Traders and shoppers tell us that our free parking scheme is of huge benefit to them during the festive period.

“This is why we are again this year pleased to be able to provide a festive boost by giving a little back to the county’s residents and traders. We are also glad that we have this year been able to extend the length of the campaign, with free parking also available in Gwynedd public car parks during the first two weekends in December.

“The scheme is great news for the economy and environment. Shoppers will not have to travel miles and be stuck in traffic congestions, the fact is that Gwynedd’s shops have all they could possibly need for the festive period on their doorstep.”

Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Economy added: “High street businesses and local traders are essential to Gwynedd’s economy, and as a Council we are committed to doing everything possible to support them.

“Various local events are held throughout the county in the period from now up to Christmas where Gwynedd shops and traders will be exhibiting their produce – our message is to make the most of the free parking scheme and to support our local shops.

“This year, the free parking period will include Small Business Saturday which is held on 3 December – a national day to encourage people to consider the unique produce that smaller traders have to offer. We sincerely hope that the free parking scheme will offer an important boost to Gwynedd shops during such an important time of year.”

Gwynedd Council is always eager to promote events across the county. If you have any community events that have been organised during the festive period, let the Council know on Facebook www.facebook.com/CyngorGwyneddCouncil or  @CyngorGwynedd on www.twitter.com and the Council will promote these events on their social media accounts.

Remember that this is a Gwynedd Council public car parks scheme. If you park in car parks owned by other organisations, you should check the arrangements before parking as it is possible there will be no free parking available there.
