An exciting project was recently launched with the aim of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in cycling and in particular disabled people and their families.

The new accessible cycling club called Power Cycling officially launched at Plas Menai. The club has been established thanks to the time and skills of officers from Gwynedd Council; Outdoor Partnership; Disability Sport Wales and Derwen - Integrated Team for Disabled Children. The scheme was funded by Sport Wales Development Grant.

During the launch many people and families took the opportunity to try one of the 15 bikes ranging from adaptive bikes, side by side, tandem bicycles, wheelchair carrier bikes. The club is located at Plas Menai, and will use Beicio Lôn Las Menai Bike Path that runs from Caernarfon to Felinheli with room to go further.

Marcus Politis, Disability Sport Wales Officer in Gwynedd said:

"Despite the weather, the Power Cycling launch was a great success with number attending from Gwynedd, Conwy and Anglesey. It is a really exciting time because the club is focused on maintaining meaningful opportunities for disabled people and their families. Thanks to all partners for their hard work to establish the scheme as well as all the volunteers who have been trained as qualified cycling leaders."

Councillor Craig ap Iago, Gwynedd Council's Cabinet Member for Healthy Gwynedd added:

"It's great to see a club like this established in Gwynedd. By working together to promote the Power Cycle, we can inspire and enable people with a disability in Gwynedd and surrounding areas to enjoy cycling accessible."

Power Cycling runs as an affiliated club every other Saturday at Plas Menai near Y Felinheli. If you would like more information or if you are interested in attending, please contact Marcus Politis on 07766 505320.
