Celebrating Storiel’s first birthday

A year on since the opening of Storiel - Gwynedd museum and gallery - in its new home in Bangor, a range of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy are being held there on 28 January to celebrate the occasion.

Since opening its doors 12 months ago, around 85,000 people have visited and enjoyed everything Storiel has to offer - historical exhibitions, art, shop and the popular Seibiant café. This is far higher than the challenging target of 25,000 visitors set for the museum and gallery in its new form. There are therefore many reasons to celebrate Storiel’s first birthday!

Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for the arts said:

“We are hugely proud of the success of Storiel. We’re delighted to see people enjoying the arts and heritage of Gwynedd, in such an appealing location as well as through activities and satellites across Gwynedd.

“So if you haven’t had the chance to visit during the year Storiel has been open, come along to celebrate Storiel’s first birthday and see what the place has to offer.

“A year since the opening, it’s a chance to look back on what’s been accomplished so far and thank all the partners and funders, especially to the Lottery Heritage Fund who helped to make the scheme a reality.”

On Saturday, 28 January 2017, there will be a range of activities to celebrate Storiel’s birthday. Mair Tomos Ifans will begin the activities at 11am through presenting the Chest of Wonders that was created to celebrate Storiel’s role as a place of collecting stories, memories and items. The chest will be returning to Storiel after a journey of collecting stories and items across Gwynedd.

The “Soap, Bubbles and Fun” workshop for families will run from 1pm to 3pm and a question and answer session about art and conservation with the artist David Woodford and John Harold, Director of Cymdeithas Eryri will be held from 1:30pm to 3pm. To crown it all, Storiel’s first birthday cake will be shared at Seibiant café at 3pm.

Storiel is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11am-5pm.
