Educating Gwynedd children through entertainment

Sbyd on the Soffa actors

During March this year, a successful show produced by Gwynedd Council’s Library Service ‘Spyd on the Soffa’ went on tour around many of the county’s primary schools.

With two well-known Welsh actors, Siw Hughes and Dylan Rhys playing the parts of Spyd and Anti Isa, the pupils enjoyed a show full of entertainment as well as teaching them about the importance of saving money.

Saving money is the show’s main theme, and the story revolves around Spyd, and his ambition of traveling around the world in a rocket. Spyd’s problem is a lack of money, therefore Anti Isa teaches him how to save and be careful with his money, by telling him stories and reading him books. Anti Isa manages to persuade Spyd that the best way of saving money is to earn money honestly and to keep it in a piggy bank.

Positive feedback was provided by the pupils and teachers, with everyone describing the show as ‘brilliant’.

The show was financed by Families First and produced by Gwynedd Council’s Library Service.
