The galas were held in the Arfon Leisure Centre, Caernarfon – the first for primary schools with less than 85 pupils and the other for primary schools with more than 85 pupils.
A total of 13 schools took part in the gala for schools of less than 85 pupils, and there was fierce competition from all the pupils. Ysgol Bethel came out on top with a final score of 76, with Ysgol Waunfawr taking the second prize and Ysgol Llandwrog third.
The schools with more than 85 pupils also gave a great show with four schools competing. Ysgol y Gelli, Caernarfon won the gala with a score of 153, with Ysgol Llanrug taking second place and Ysgol Bontnewydd in third.
Dyfed Glyn Davies, Gwynedd Council’s Aquatic Development Officer said: “We had two fantastic days in the swimming gala with many primary school pupils in the Arfon area enjoying competing in the pool and representing their schools. It was nice to see high quality swimming from the children, and more importantly, everybody seemed to have a good time.”
Gerallt Roberts, Arfon Leisure Centre Manager said: “Many congratulations to Ysgol Bethel and Ysgol y Gelli for winning, thanks to every school that competed and for supporting the centre throughout the year. I would like to thank all the staff at the Arfon Leisure Centre for their work during the two days and to Gwynedd Council’s Sport Development team for their help with the Gala.”
