The aim of the Active Gwynedd review is to develop Gwynedd into a more active and healthy county. Options have now been identified to help us achieve this and to meet the needs of Gwynedd’s residents as well as providing good value for public money.
The Council would now value the opinion of Gwynedd residents on those options, and three public sessions will be held from 6.30pm to 8.30pm which will give members of the public an opportunity to have their say. They will be held at:
- Monday, 10 October 2011: Llanelltyd, near Dolgellau
- Tuesday, 11 October 2011: Bangor
- Wednesday, 12 October 2011: Sarn Mellteyrn, Pen Llŷn
Dafydd Lewis, Gwynedd Council’s Corporate Director who’s leading the Strategic Review said: “The Council wished to maximize the benefits of leisure activity, especially in the challenging financial situation facing us when it is more important than ever that we identify creative new ways of meeting the needs of the county’s residents in a cost-effective way.
“The Active Gwynedd review provides an opportunity for us to look in detail at the variety of leisure opportunities which are provided in locations across the county by the voluntary, private and public sectors. The aim is to consider the kind of provision the Council and its partners should be providing in the future to meet the aspirations that have been identified.
“We have already been asking people about the kind of physical activity they undertake or would like to undertake, and there is now an opportunity to discuss the kind of leisure options they would like to see in the future have the potential to deliver ambitious results for the Gwynedd leisure sector.”
The feedback from these sessions will then be presented to the Council’s Care Scrutiny Committee on 29 November and the Council Board on 13 December.
Councillor Peter Read, Chair of the Strategic Review Working Group said: “I’d like to thank all the people who have shared their views so far, and I look forward to hearing the comments made in these discussion sessions. I would urge residents to come along and let us know what they think as the feedback collected will help to shape leisure services in Gwynedd for many years to come.”
