Gwynedd Council supports national tourism campaign

Visit Snowdonia
Be a part of the Facebook campaign by suggesting your favourite place or activity

Gwynedd Council’s Tourism and Marketing Service is calling on the people of Gwynedd to suggest some of the local attractions which can make the holiday of a lifetime, as part of a national campaign.

Visit Wales – the tourism department of the Welsh Government – has kicked off its We Want Piers Bramhall campaign and is asking people to post their suggestions on their Facebook page.

The aim is for people, communities, businesses and tourist attractions from all over the country to suggest things for Piers Bramhall – a 27 year-old Londoner – to see and do during a Welsh holiday in September. Piers and his girlfriend Emma will visit the best suggestions during the autumn and the attractions will feature in Visit Wales’ television advertising campaign for the rest of the UK and Ireland in the new year.

Councillor Dyfed Edwards, Leader of Gwynedd Council, said: “This is an unique opportunity for us to show the rest of the country, and the world, what Gwynedd has to offer.

“We are proud of our rich history and culture and stunning landscapes and so much of these resources have been developed to bolster the tourism sector – which is a vital part of the local economy.

“I would urge people to take part in this campaign and spread the word about the great things that Gwynedd has to offer. Who knows, this time next year some of our hidden gems could have a starring role in this exciting advertising campaign.”

Suggestions could include:

  • Interesting and fun days out such as a historic site or visitor attraction
  • Which are the best cafes and restaurants, and your menu highlights
  • Try a new activity such as surfing or fishing
  • Name your favourite view
  • Which beaches are the best and why?

Visit Wales has created a page on the social networking website Facebook at www.facebook.com/visitwales where members of the public can leave suggestions for Piers and Emma. People can write a note, take a photo or even post a video clip (the camera on your mobile phone will do) showing the great places to eat and things to see and do.

The best suggestions may be filmed for an advertising campaign in January 2012.
