Reorganisation of education in the Gader catchment area

Gwynedd Council’s Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Committee has approved recommendations to reorganise education in the Gader catchment area without opposition.

This follows a series of local meetings in the Gader, Dolgellau catchment area. Following the support of the Scrutiny Committee on 23 June 2011, the recommendations will be considered by the Council Board and full Council during July.

Members of the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Committee supported the following recommendations without opposition:

  • to establish a multi-site Area School – with one located at either Brithdir or Ieuan Gwynedd, Rhydymain and the other on the current Dinas Mawddwy site. This means that either Brithdir or Ieuan Gwynedd, Rhydymain would close as a school. Ysgol Llanfachreth would close as part of this proposal with the provision being offered in the area school
  • the proposal for the town of Dolgellau is to establish a multisite lifelong learning community 3 to 16 years on the sites of Ysgol Gynradd Dolgellau and Ysgol y Gader
  • delaying the discussions in the West of the catchment for the time being (Llanelltyd, Clogau, Ganllwyd and Friog area) whilst ensuring that this part of the catchment will have priority in the next part of the schools reorganisation process
