The Gwynedd Môn Senior Youth Brass Band has been invited to perform in the world's largest youth music festival, the National Festival of Music for Youth which will be held in July this year.
The Gwynedd Môn Brass Band, which is administered on behalf of Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils by the William Mathias Schools Service and draws its members from the secondary schools of both counties, will perform alongside 10,000 other inspiring young musicians at the 38th National Festival of Music for Youth.
Over the years the Youth Band have been very successful in a number of national competitions and were awarded the ultimate accolade in 2007 by winning the British Premier Brass Band Championship in Manchester. The Gwynedd Môn Brass Band is conducted by Gwyn Evans and is supported by a dedicated team of peripatetic Brass and Percussion tutors.
The National Festival of Music for Youth is the largest event of its kind in the world and takes place in Birmingham from 7 - 12 July. The Gwynedd Môn Youth Band will perform at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham on Thursday, 10 July.
The Band which features 38 young musicians aged between 11 and 19 years of age, will perform music composed by Peter Grahame and other arrangements by their conductor Gwyn Evans. The music is in the form of a suite depicting the folk story of Branwen from the Mabinogion.
Dennis Williams of William Mathias Schools Service said:
"This internationally recognised festival is a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to come together and celebrate the outstanding breadth and quality of the youth music scene in Britain today."
The festival line-up includes rock and pop bands, and urban groups, choirs, orchestras, brass bands and many more performing almost every genre of music.
A panel of expert adjudicators will present each group with a certificate and feedback on their performance, with selected groups receiving awards. Thirty of these groups will then be invited to perform at the Music For Youth Schools Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, London between 10 and 12 November.
