The month-long programme of activities celebrated the creative arts which can be enjoyed in communties up and down the county, from art workshops, exhibitions and open studios to writing courses, plays, films and concerts.
Luned Emyr, President of the Gwynedd Arts Forum said:
“It is truly exciting to see such a rich variety which exists in the creative fields here in Gwynedd. The Gwynedd Arts Month reminded us of the wealth of creativity we have, which was seen across a wide range of activities and experiences which were on offer.
“The month provided an opportunity for people to attend workshops with artists as well as the rare chance to have a look at some of their studios, along with projects such as the October Art Club which gave valuable opportunities for primary school children to develop their artistic talents.
“Without naming all the activities, I can certainly testify that the events reflect the excitement of creativity which already exists in Gwynedd’s communities. It was wonderful to be able to see and celebrate that energetic excitement.”
Throughout October, Gwynedd’s creative artists were given a great stage to showcase their talents, with many seeing a substantial increase in takings compared with other years. The hope is that this month-long celebration will kindle interest in the talents which are on-show at various locations throughout Gwynedd.
Artist, Sonja Benskin Mesher, based at Llanelltyd near Dolgellau said the Gwynedd Arts Month provided a wonderful platform to display the artistic talent the county has to offer.
“The Arts Month was a great help to me as an artist, and I hope it can become a regular event. I certainly saw an increase in the interest in my work, with local visitors, as well as people from as far as London, Cardiff and Glasgow,” she said.
Following the success of the Arts Month, the Gwynedd Arts Forum has launched a new guidebook to promote the arts in the county. The guidebook, “Creative Gwynedd – Home of Fine Arts” which includes information about artists, galleries, organizations involved with art, music, drama, centres and theatres, literature, dance and so much more is now available for free.
