Awarded by the Jobcentre Plus Disability Service, the symbol helps employers to emphasise their commitment to employing disabled people and to help disabled people identify which employers have a positive attitude to their abilities.
Councillor Tomos Evans, who leads on Resources on Gwynedd Council said:
“As a Council we are determined to ensure that we are able to recruit the best possible people for all posts which become available. The fact that we have again been successful in our efforts to use the Disability Symbol clearly confirms that Gwynedd Council is committed to ensuring that our workforce reflects the community that we serve.”
In order to use the symbol, Gwynedd Council demonstrated its commitment to:
Interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy
Consult disabled employees about their development needs
Retaining employees who become disabled
Develop greater awareness of disability
Review progress and seek improvement
