People from across Gwynedd took part in various activities during the Gwynedd Healthy Living Week.

A series of various actviities were held throughout Gwynedd during the week, encouraging Gwynedd residents to live a healthy lifestyle and to take part in various types of physical activities.

Councillor John Wyn Williams, Gwynedd Council’s Senior Care Portfolio Leader said:

“It was very pleasing to see so many Gwynedd residents taking part in the various activities that were held across the county as part of the Gwynedd Healthy Living Week.

“Our hope is that this event packed week will encourage more of Gwynedd’s residents to take advantage of the wealth of facilities available at Gwynedd leisure centers, as well as the various outdoor activities Gwynedd has to offer.”

One of the main events during the week was the day activities held at the Millenium Park in Penrhyndeudraeth on Thursday, 11 October. There were wonderful opportunities to walk and take part in orienteering actvities with the support of the Gwynedd Outdoor Partnership and the Snowdonia Orienteering Club.

Gwynedd Council’s Health and Welfare Facilitator Llinos Ann Owen explained:

“The Millenium Park has been selected as one of the 5x30 sites as part of the North Wales Outdoor Challenge. Special walks and orienteering paths have been clearly marked so that you can pop in to do your 30 minutes of physical activity which is suggested that people do five times a week.

“A number of children came along to enjoy the orienteering session, and anyone is welcome to go along in the leisure time. A special map is available from Siop Dewi, penrhyndeudraeth for a pound.”

There was also a great chance to enjoy Nordic walking. A large number came along to give this exciting activity a go, which is a great way to keep fit. Nordic walking is a very exciting outdoor activity, which is a superb fitness regime where participants walk using walking poles meaning that you get a full body workout. Whilst normal fitness walking has excellent health benefits, research has shown that there are considerable advantages in the Nordic way.
