This year’s lecture celebrates forty years of delivering this annual event, and this year, the lecturer, Dewi R Jones will be talking about the various lectures over they years. He will be talking about the thinking behind the lectures, the preparations and the fluent deliverance of the lectures. The main direction of the lecture will be on how the local area and its characters influenced the personality and the careers of most of the lecturers.
The first lecture was delivered in 1967 by Gwilym R Jones, and over the years, Kate Roberts, John Gwilym Jones, Thomas Parry, Elan Closs Stephens and Karen Owen have been among those who have delivered the lecture.
The annual lecture at Llyfrgell Penygroes is arranged by Gwynedd Council’s Library and Information Service, and the lecture is published for sale. Copies of the lecture will be available at the end of the evening. The lecture was established by the library service with support of a bequest by Elisabeth Hughes, a bequest received to establish and promote the work of the library service in Penygroes and the surrounding area.
This years’s lecturer, Dewi R Jones was born and raised on a farm in Bryncir, and was educated at Ysgol Gynradd Garndolbenmaen ,Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle and Bangor University. Not only did he receive his secondary education in Dyffryn Nantlle, but he later returned to the school during the eighties as Head of the Welsh department, but he was also appointed as Head teacher of the school between 1999 and 2007. He is now Head of Gwynedd Council’s School Service.
