Developing the Trawsfynydd Nuclear Site

A number of developments are ongoing to develop the Trawsfynydd area, in response to the economic challenge the decommissioning process is likely to have on its residents and communities:

Trawsfynydd Resource and Asset Masterplan, and Snowdonia Enterprise Zone

Gwynedd Council, working in partnership with Magnox Ltd, Welsh Government and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), are eager to develop opportunities generated from the resources and assets of the Trawsfynydd Nuclear Power Station.  The plan reflects the importance of the site as a key strategic regeneration opportunity which has the potential to stimulate new economic development opportunities.  One of the plans main drivers was the potential to assess and develop the opportunities which will bring about the best and most sustainable economic and social benefits in the long term, from the resources and assets of the NDA and their site

This work has now been adopted, and is being developed further by a Board of experts, as a result of Trawsfynydd site being designated as one of the sites within Snowdonia Enterprise Zone.  Further details about Snowdonia Enterprise Zone can be found at www.enterprisezones.wales.gov.uk

Trawsfynydd Communities and Nature

A project is being implemented to develop the infrastructure around Trawsfynydd Lake in order to allow residents and visitors to enjoy the unique wildlife and habitats which encompass it.  The work will include significant access improvements, new paths, digital and traditional interpretation work, and work to promote and market the location.

Snowdonia Centre of Excellence – Trawsfynydd Lake

Following the approval of the “Snowdonia Centre of Excellence” bid in 2009, a package of activities to attract more world class outdoor activities to South Meirionnydd is now starting to bear fruit.  One aspect of the project is the development of new facilities and resources to develop Trawsfynydd Lake in order to promote activities and leisure opportunities in the area.
