Parc Glynllifon has been under Gwynedd Council management since 1987, and the Gallery was opened in March 2002, as part of the celebrations of the of the park's fifteenth birthday. The Gallery is located within the walls of the old Glynllifon estate, which was the residence of the Newborough family for centuries. The old estate workshops were renovated by Gwynedd Council, and now the facilities are being used by craftsmen of note, where visitors may view the artists at work and purchase unique works of art of exceptional quality.

In the Gallery exists a varied and changing programme of art works, principally, by talented and interesting artists. There exists a contemporary craft shop where craft items produced by Glynllifon-based artists, as well as other Welsh artists, are sold.

The purpose of the site is to attract a variety of visitors to appreciate Glynllifon's history and heritage, and to extend their interest and enjoyment in the arts and crafts.
