An art gallery has existed at this location since 1963, and the museum was relocated to the building from the University at Upper Bangor in 1974. It is a unique collection because it reflects the history of North Wales.

The gallery has a variable and changing programme of arts and crafts by mainly professional artists, exhibiting for 6 to 8 weeks. These exhibits include local works, touring exhibitions (some with an overseas connection), and historical exhibitions in turn. There is also a craft shop with wheelchair access to the gallery and shop.  Join the enthusiastic and supportive Friends of the Museum and Art Gallery.

The gallery's objective is to attract a wide range of visitors to appreciate the area's history and heritage through the museum's collections and to extend interest and enjoyment of the visual arts.
